New Delhi, with sources in Chicago
The Indian public and government expressed deep concern on the treatment handed over to Bollywood celebrity Aamir Khan at the O’Hare International Airport, Chicago this Sunday. Reports said Aamir has complained of being treated like a terrorist by security guards, in a repeat of SRK’s treatment earlier this year.
According to various TV channels, Aamir has claimed that when he was asked his name and he replied, the officials expressed suspicion over his name, and he was kept in a dark chamber and investigated thoroughly for five hours, plus tortured to some extent.
The incident raised angry reactions from many sections of society. RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav said, ” ye humaare desh ki tauheenee hai,…. u log samajhta ka hai bollywood waale log ko… You can not call terrorists to our hero-heroine log…” Readers may remember a similar incident with Shah Rukh Khan in August, when he was apparently held on suspicion due to having the surname Khan. The incident was looked upon by some as a publicity stunt to promote his film My Name Is Khan. Meanwhile, Shahrukh Khan on his blog said his son calls their family dog as “Idiot” out of affection.
