This guy admits he uses earphones even if there are no songs playing, just to look cool

Kamaal Rashid Khan, a 21-year-old student in Delhi University, has told NTMN that he uses earphones even when there is no song playing. “I keep them plugged into my ears whenever I am outside home, just to look cool and sexy,” he admits. To prove that he is indeed not listening to any songs when his ears seem to be blocked from the outside world, he shows us his mobile phone: it has an external memory of 10MB, and he has only two songs saved in the media player. When asked if he isn’t bored of having only two songs, he retorts, “No, I am not bored of them yet, since I haven’t even listened to them enough! I told you, I just plug in earphones but I don’t listen to any songs! I hate music, but I love earphones.”

KRK, as he wants us to call him in this report, believes girls tend to go for guys who use earphones in public, as it looks cool and carefree. “For guys who can’t manage expensive shoes and dresses, having a choice in music is the best best. A survey on The Times of India website said once that 99% of every guy who ended up having a love marriage, had listened to earphones at least once in life. The very next day after I read this, I looked for my earphones, and since then, I have always travelled in metros and on roads trying to pose as if I am listening to songs. My dad can’t afford those large headphones for me, but I will buy them first thing when I am earning.”

Worth it?

So, what goes on in his mind when he pretends to be listening to music? “I observe people around. Girls actually. I listen to their talks.” He has a word of advice for those youngsters who dangerously listen to music while walking on roads. About the people who have recently been killed while listening to earphones in and around Delhi, he says, “I am not at any risk due to my habit of using earphones on the mute mode. I can’t get killed by traffic or trains. I advise everyone who uses earphones to use them like losers like me when they are on the road. After all these news reports, I stopped updating my location on Facebook when I used to cross the road. I think those who listen to songs on roads should also take a lesson.”

KRK did not reveal which are the only two songs on his phone’s memory card, but assured that they were not Himesh Reshammiya songs. “I have saved English songs to leave more impression upon girls. I read somewhere that having a cheap handset can be safely compensated by listening to English music.” (He added that he didn’t read this on TOI.)

So, has it worked? Does he have a girlfriend now? “Well, sometimes girls do seem to like me, but they have no idea that my phone doesn’t even have FM radio! I sit on the ladies’ seat in metro trains so that girls take a look at me. And they frequently stare at me. I love it. I suggest earphones for every unsuccessful guy.”

The NTMN View: When the target is girls, volume does not matter to KRK. Similarly, when the target is to reach home safely, the fact that you love music or are getting bored while walking, does not matter. Do not listen to music when you are on roads.
